Here are the definition of some of the key terms related to SOA Governance.

  • Governed component Identifies the specific capability requiring governance.

  • Policy A definite course or method of action selected from among alternatives and in light of given conditions to guide and determine present and future decisions. A policy applies to the governed component.

  • Standard Something established by authority, custom, or general consent as a model or example. The governed component must adhere to the agreed standards.

  • Responsible party A person or group of people responsible for managing the governed component. It must be clear for each component who this responsible party is.

  • Procedure A particular method for performing a task. The procedure identifies how a component will be governed.

  • Mechanism A particular method for performing a task. This is where an asset, methodology, or best practice is applied to assist in the governance of this component.

  • Metric A standard of measurement. It is important to put in place the measurements for the success of this governance component.
